Finally got home at 12:30am We had a late lunch, and had to make a few detours. With the insane heat, slightly elevated pace, lots of breaks were needed after lunch.
Starting 2 hrs earlier would of helped too... a little.
570miles door to door.
C9Y was a blast as always. Shawn, you guys really should of done this part, then turned back. I need to check the gps logs, but I swear where got through it in under 30 minutes.
One of the detours lead us on a winding road barely the width of 2 cars. Typical.... I'll need to redo part of the route... Some sections a bit too straight, others had poor pavement. Expect a 600mi+ day,

About 450 miles for me - but got home about 730. While starting 2 hours earlier at 7am might have helped - I think realistically most people - at least sport riders - are not going to be looking to do 600+ miles of technical riding in a single day. As it is the 400+ is a bit much already, but didn't hear many complaints . Doing about 2 hours worth of twisties after lunch and then hitting the far less technical 20 just west of Stockton was just about the right dosage and helped speed up the timetable quite a bit.
We made 2 stops on the way home from Dubuque... first for ice cream, then for fuel in either Freeport or Winnebego - I can't remember which. I am guessing you guys made more and/or longer stops and were not able to maintain the average speeds that we were.
Was a great great ride all the same, and will probably be doing it again soon!

The post lunch c9y run would of added ~60 miles or an hr. It's about 30 miles each way past red robin. I believe we passed a total of 1 cars, and had 2 stop signs before getting to the good part, and 1 stop during for a left turn. The road was in perfect condition with just a hint of gravel in a few spots.
We did stop about every 50-60 miles to keep hydrated. The heat was brutal, and we were cooking (both literally and pace wise) most of the way.

Now that it's reopened, there will be alot more traffic. I wouldn't mind heading down there, but hitting other roads too..
Actually, a route to southern IN, southern OH, WV and PA is something I've been working on. Some very good roads out there. If this comes to fruition, it'll probably be a 2000+ mi ride over 4-5 days. I've already been to IN, KY, TN, NC, VA, MD, WV, OH this year. Want to try to hit some northern states too.
I know I really enjoyed the first DeBuque ride. But I agree with Shawn, the ride after lunch is about perfect because I was totally exhausted by the time I got Home. Anything more and i wouldn't have made it home. Ha ha!
